Newman Defeats Harding Tennis 6-3

TULSA, Okla. - The No. 48 Harding men's tennis team fell 6-3 to Newman University on Saturday at the neutral-site match at the Philcrest Hills Tennis Center. The loss dropped Harding to 3-2 on the season, and Newman improved to 6-3.

Newman won two of the three doubles matches with Harding earning its first point at No. 3 doubles. Adrian Torrico and Neto Cacace improved to 2-1 as a doubles team with an 8-3 victory over Evgeniy Kim and Jeff Wherritt.

Harding needed four singles victories, but only Torrico and Andras Marics collected singles wins. Torrico won 6-3, 6-0 over Max Pyle at No. 6 and has won his first two collegiate singles matches. Marics won in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 over Freddy Sanchez and is 7-3 overall in singles, 5-0 in dual matches and has won five straight singles contests.

Both Harding and Newman, a Heartland Conference school located in Wichita, Kansas, entered the matchup regionally ranked. Harding is No. 6 in the Central Region, and Newman is No. 9 in the South Central Region. Harding had won the previous four meetings between the teams.
