CONWAY, Ark. – The 48th-ranked Harding men's tennis team opened its spring schedule with a 9-0 victory over Hendrix College on Saturday morning at the Hendrix Indoor Tennis Center.
Harding improved to 3-0 overall, and Hendrix fell to 1-2.
The Bisons played well in winning all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of David Korsten and Andras Marics won 8-3, the No. 2 team of Jon Mark Rowden and Carlos Crisostomo also won 8-3, and the No. 3 squad of Adrian Torrico and Neto Cacace won 8-0.
Harding won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. The tightest contest was at No. 1 singles where Rowden defeated Robert Sheets 3-6, 6-2, 10-7 for his 40th career singles victory.
Korsten, a freshman from Germany, played at No. 2 and won 6-1, 6-0. Crisostomo, a freshman from Chile, won his Harding debut 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.
Marics, another freshman from Hungary, cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4. Sophomore Brandon Hogland won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5, and Torrico won his first match as a Bison, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
Harding's next action is on Feb. 19 against Delta State. The teams will meet in Conway, Arkansas, for a neutral-site contest.
