Harding men's tennis looks to extend its winning streak to five matches Saturday with a contest against future Great American Conference opponent Oklahoma Baptist.
Harding is ranked No. 9 in the ITAtennis.com's Central Region Rankings, enters the match 8-5 overall and has won four straight, including a pair of 9-0 sweeps Wednesday against Christian Brothers and LeMoyne-Owen in Memphis.
Harding has three players riding singles winning streaks of five matches or more. Sophomore Brandon Hogland leads the team with a six-match winning streak and has a team-best 10-2 singles record. Freshman Adrian Torrico and sophomore Josh Hurt have both won five straight.
Harding's No. 3 doubles team of Neto Cacace and Torrico are the Bisons' most successful duo thus far. The team has won its last three matches and has a 9-2 record together this season. Cacace has been a doubles standout with a 15-4 doubles record. The last Harding player with 16 doubles wins in a season was Henrique Ruiz, brother of Harding head coach Marco Ruiz. Henrique went 16-4 in doubles in 2008-09.
Harding has a 50-21 singles record in dual matches this season and 26-13 in doubles.
Oklahoma Baptist Notes
Oklahoma Baptist, located in Shawnee, is in its final season as a member of the NAIA Sooner Athletic Conference. The Bison (no "s") will be provisional members of the Great American Conference beginning next season.
Oklahoma Baptist is 5-6 overall and has won five of its last six matches after starting the season 0-5.
Series
Harding and Oklahoma Baptist met for the first time in 1988, with Harding winning 6-3. The Bisons won 9-0 in 1990, and the teams have not met again since.
