SEARCY – The Harding softball team split with Lyon in non-conference action on Tuesday. The Lady Bisons won the first game 9-2 but fell in the second game 5-2.
Harding moves to 12-20 on the season while Lyon moves to 15-11.
GAME ONE
After giving up two runs in the top of the first, Harding held Lyon scoreless the rest of the way as they went on to win 9-2.
After the top of the first, the Lady Bisons answered back with four runs in the bottom of the inning on five hits and an error. Kimmy Hendricks knocked in Harding's first run on a single through the left side. Two batters later, Mackenzie Jones singled up the middle to score Hendricks from third. Jones came around and scored on fielding error by the third basemen. Kinsey Beck hit an RBI single for Harding's fourth run.
In the second, Hendricks doubled down the left-field line to score Brookelynn Moon from first. Kylie Stephens knocked in Harding's second run of the inning when she grounded out to the second basemen.
The Lady Bisons tacked on two more insurance runs in the third. Moon hit her first triple of the season down the right-field line to score Courtney Derrick for Harding's first run. After Hendricks walked to put runner at the corners, Moon scored on a double steal.
Harding scored its final run in the sixth when Emily Jones hit a solo home run. It was her first home run of the season.
Amber Rollins got the win for Harding improving her record to 8-8 on the season. Rollins pitched four innings and struck out three batters. Danielle Hubbard pitched three scoreless innings to earn the save for Harding. Ashten Welch (8-5) got the loss for Lyon.
It was the fourth straight win for Harding.
GAME TWO
Lyon scored two runs in the first and three in the second as they won 5-2.
The Scots scored two runs on three hits and an error in the first inning. Lyon scored three runs on five hits in the second inning led by Fuller who hit a single up with the bases loaded to score two runs for the Scots.
Harding scored a run in the bottom of the first when Carolyn Clayton hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Brookelynn Moon from third.
Marley Edwards picked up her second home run of the season in the second inning on a solo shot to right field.
Nicole Sanders got the win for Lyon pitching all seven innings and striking out five. Taylor Friend got the loss for Harding in a 1 1-3 innings of work. Danielle Hubbard pitched 5 2-3 scoreless innings for the Lady Bisons.
Harding had eight hits in the game.
The Lady Bisons will continue Great American Conference action this weekend when it travels to Weatherford, Oklahoma to face Southwestern Oklahoma in a four-game series. The doubleheader on Friday is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
