HU Men's Tennis Wins Tight Match over UAFS

SEARCY - Harding men's tennis won its sixth consecutive match Tuesday with a 5-4 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith.

The Bisons improved to 10-5 overall and 7-5 against NCAA Division II opponents. Teams in Division II must have a .500 record or better against other Division II teams to have a chance to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Arkansas-Fort Smith dropped its second straight and fell to 1-7 overall.

Harding trailed all three doubles matches 6-5, but the No. 2 team of Josh Hurt and Carlos Crisostomo and the No. 3 team of Neto Cacace and Adrian Torrico both rallied to win 8-6 and give the Bisons a 2-1 lead. Hurt and Crisostomo are 3-0 this season as a team, and Cacace and Torrico won its fifth straight doubles match and improved to 11-2 together. Cacace has won 17 doubles matches this season, the most since Stephen Paine won 17 in 2003.

Arkansas-Fort Smith tied the match at 2-2 soon after singles began. Cacace had to retire with leg cramps at No. 6 singles to even the match.

Harding won the next two matches to finish and led 4-2. David Korsten won his fourth straight match overall and his first at No. 1 singles. He is tied with Brandon Hogland with 11 singles victories. Torrico won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 for his team-best seventh consecutive victory.

Arkansas-Fort Smith closed to within 4-3 with a victory at No. 4, but Harding's Crisostomo closed out the victory for the Bisons by winning 6-3, 7-6 at No. 2. Crisostomo has won six straight matches.
