Harding Baseball Falls to Southern Arkansas in Final Regular Season Home Game

SEARCY – Harding played its final home baseball game of the season Wednesday and fell 7-2 to Southern Arkansas at Jerry Moore Field.

The Bisons (26-20) will play their most important series of the season beginning Friday at 7 p.m. against Arkansas Tech in Russellville. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.

Harding enters the series in first place in the Great American Conference standings with a 17-7 record and is looking for its first regular season conference championship since winning the Gulf South Conference West Division in 2011.

In Wednesday's game, Harding led 2-1 after four innings, but Southern Arkansas' Billy Germaine hit a two-run double in the fifth that gave the Muleriders the lead for good. Chris Quinn hit a solo home run for Southern Arkansas in the sixth, Carver Rademacher scored on a balk in the seventh, and Germaine hit his 10th home run of the season in the top of the ninth for the final margin.

Harrison Hunter doubled to lead off the top of the first for Harding. He advanced to second on a throwing error and scored on Zac Stewart's infield single that extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Shane Kinnear singled in Alan Copeland for Harding's run in the fourth inning.

Sophomore Andrew Ralston (2-3) started and pitched well for the Bisons. He allowed seven hits and three earned runs in five innings with three strikeouts. Josh Spears, Hunter Payne and Connor McVay pitched in relief, and senior Nick Ford picked up the final two outs.

Reliever Jared Webb (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings to collect the win for Southern Arkansas. Jared Fielden struck out four in two innings for his first save.

Chapman was 2 for 3 for Harding, who had seven total hits but had three potential rallies end on double plays.

Harding honored its three seniors—Kinnear, Ford, and Kyler Offenbacker—in a ceremony prior to the game. Kinnear was presented with the Tom Hull Teammate Award, given each year to the senior whose efforts on and off the field best exemplify the concepts and ideals of Harding Baseball.
