SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Harding men's tennis team, who had won its previous five matches, put a scare into No. 19 Northwest Missouri State on Friday before losing 7-2 at the Cooper Tennis Center.
Harding (10-6) will take on another nationally-ranked team in No. 44 Washburn on Saturday.
The Bisons picked up their first point at No. 2 doubles.
Josh Hurt and
Carlos Crisostomo won their fourth straight match with an 8-4 victory over Mauro Tete and Romain Boissinot. Hurt, a sophomore from Fulton, Missouri, opened the season with three doubles losses but has won six straight doubles matches with three different partners. Crisostomo, a freshman from Santiago, Chile, has won five straight doubles matches and seven of his last nine.
Freshman
Adrian Torrico, a native of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, gave Harding its second point with his eighth straight singles victory. He defeated Josef Altmann 7-6, 6-4 and has won 16 consecutive sets.
Crisostomo had won six straight singles matches and took Mauro Tete, the 43rd-ranked singles player in NCAA Division II, to three sets before falling 10-5 in a tiebreaker. Sophomore
Neto Cacace also went three sets at No. 6 singles.
