Lady Bison Volleyball Comes up Short against Two Ranked Opponents

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Harding volleyball team fell to No. 6 Central Missouri 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-23) and No. 7 Washburn 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) on Friday in the GAC/MIAA Challenge hosted by Arkansas Tech.

No. 6 CENTRAL MISSOURI MATCH RECAP

Central Missouri jumped out to an 18-7 lead in set one behind three aces and forced five Harding attack errors. The Jennies took the first set 25-15. Central Missouri opened the second set with a 15-5 lead. Harding went on a 9-4 run to cut the lead to 20-14. The Jennies scored the next five points to take set two 25-14. Central Missouri took a 10-5 lead in the third set until the Lady Bisons went on an 11-8 run to pull within two (18-16). Harding got within one 24-23 but a kill by Carly Sojka gave the Jennies the set and the match win.

HU-UCM TEAM STATS

Harding had 13 kills in the third set as they were held to only 15 in the first two sets.

Central Missouri forced 18 Lady Bison attack errors and held Harding to hitting .088.

The Jennies hit .239 and had 43 kills in the match.

HU-UCM INDIVIDUAL STATS

Harding was led by senior outside hitter Molly Howard who had 11 kills and nine digs.  

Carly Sojka led Central Missouri with 11 kills and 10 digs. Kylie Hohlen and Annie Reilly each had 14 digs for the Jennies.

No. 7 WASHBURN RECAP

Washburn took a 12-4 lead in the first set and didn't look back as the Ichadbods won 25-17. In the opening points of the second set, the scored stayed close until a 6-1 run by Washburn gave it a 13-7 lead. Harding cut the lead to five (18-13) after a 4-0 run but the Ichadbods lead was too much to overcome as Washburn won 25-18. Harding took a 7-3 lead to open the third set but relinquished the lead after a Washburn 7-1 run that gave it a 13-10 lead. The Lady Bisons pulled within two (19-17) after a 4-0 run but the Ichadbods closed the set on a 6-3 run.

HU-WU TEAM STATS

Harding hit .049 in the match and had 25 kills.

Washburn had 44 kills and hit .179.

Harding forced 22 Washburn attack errors on 15 team blocks.

HU-WU INDIVIDUAL STATS

Harding was led by freshman middle blocker Zoe Hardin who had seven kills and season-high 11 blocks.

Junior setter Abigail Glosup captured a double-double with 17 assists and 11 digs. Junior defensive specialist Anna Leigh Cargile had a match-high 15 digs.

Washburn was led by Leanne Willer who had 16 kills.

Harding will wrap up its tri-match on Saturday at 11 a.m., when it faces Pittsburg State at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville, Arkansas.
