Harding Comeback Falls Short in Loss to Ouachita

SEARCY – Harding battled back from a 16-point second-half deficit but fell 62-58 to Ouachita Baptist on Saturday in Great American Conference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House. It was Harding's first home conference loss of the season and dropped the Bisons to 7-6 overall and 6-2 in the GAC.

Ouachita's victory creates a three-way tie for first place in the GAC with Harding and East Central also at 6-2.

Harding (7-6) shot only 36 percent in the first half but trailed only 28-26 at the break. Ouachita (6-8) shot just 33 percent before the break.

Tiger forward Tirrell Brown took over early in the second half, scoring Ouachita's first six points and 10 of their first 14. Brown finished with a game-high 22 points.

A 3-pointer by Harding's Micah Bailey cut the Ouachita lead to 34-33 with 14:25 left. The Bisons' next field goal did not come until the 8:55 mark, a Stefan Andelkovic jumper that ended a 13-1 Ouachita run.
David Berete hit a 3-pointer for the Tigers at the 7:52 mark to push the Ouachita lead to 16 points at 52-36.

Harding whittled away at the Ouachita lead and got it below 10 points on two Will Francis free throws with 1:40 left. Reggie Anthony's layup at 1:17 got the Bisons within 57-53, but Harding went empty in its next two possessions, allowing Ouachita to hold on for the win.

TEAM STATS
Harding shot 37 percent from the field, the first time this season the Bisons shot less than 40 percent.

Harding and Ouachita were in the top three in the GAC in free-throw percentage, but both teams shot 50 percent at the free-throw line. Harding was 11-of-22, and Ouachita was 9-of-18.

The Bisons had fewer assists than turnovers for the first time this season. Harding had 11 assists and 17 turnovers. Ouachita had 13 assists and 15 turnovers.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
Blake McNair led Harding with 14 points. He had five of Harding's nine first-half field goals. It was his eighth game in double figures this season.

Stefan Andelkovic came off the bench to score 13 points. He made three of Harding's seven 3-pointers and scored in double figures for the second straight game.

Jacob Gibson had nine points and a season-high eight rebounds.

Tirrell Brown had 14 of his 22 points in the second half for Ouachita.
