Defense Leads Lady Bison Volleyball Over Northwestern Oklahoma

ALVA, Okla. -  The Harding volleyball team had 90 digs and went on to sweep Northwestern Oklahoma 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-17) in Great American Conference action on Saturday. It was the Lady Bisons fifth conference sweep this season.

RECORDS

Harding improves to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in the GAC and Northwestern Oklahoma falls to 3-21 overall and 1-9 in the GAC.

SET ONE HIGHLIGHTS

Harding jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the first set until Northwestern Oklahoma took a 13-11 lead on a 9-3 run. The Lady Bisons answered back with a 5-0 run on three blocks. The Rangers scored seven of the next nine points to take a 20-18 lead. Harding battled back and won the set 25-23 on a 7-3 run on five kills by Emily Clayton.

SET TWO HIGHLIGHTS

Trailing 19-17 in the second set, Harding went on a 6-1 run on four kills to take a 23-20 lead. Northwestern Oklahoma scored the next three points to tie the set at 23. The Lady Bisons had back-to-back kills by Alex Nolan to win the set 25-23.

SET THREE HIGHLIGHTS

After leading 9-8 in the third set, Harding went on a 9-1 run to lead 18-9. The lead was too much for Northwestern Oklahoma to overcome as the Lady Bisons won the set 25-17.

TEAM STAT

Harding's 90 digs tied for fourth most in school history in three-set matches.

The Lady Bisons defense also produced eight blocks.

Harding had 44 kills and hit .219 in the match. Harding's kills tied for the most in a three-set match this season.

Northwestern Oklahoma had 42 kills and 82 digs in the match.

INDIVIDUAL STATS

Harding was led by Emily Clayton who had 15 kills. Alex Nolan captured her first career double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs.

The Lady Bison defense was led by Taylor Lake who had a career-high 35 digs. It was the most by a Harding player in a three-set match which was previously held by Harding head coach Meredith Fear who had 33 at Arkansas-Monticello in 2007. It also set a GAC record for the most digs in a three-set match. The record of 34 was previously held by Sydney Skelton of Henderson State earlier this season.

Zoe Hardin had eight blocks to lead Lady Bisons at the net.

Asia Pipkin captured a double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs for Northwestern Oklahoma.

We put together a phenomenal defensive effort and were able to close out close sets. Two players had break out matches. Our libero Taylor Lake was touching every ball possible and freshman Alex Nolan had her first double-double of her career…but it was a full team effort."

Harding will be back at home on Monday when it takes on Williams Baptist in non-conference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House at 6 p.m.
