Foster Scores Two to Lift Harding Men's Soccer to Ninth Victory

BOLIVAR, Mo. – When the Harding men's soccer team needs a goal (or two) against Southwest Baptist, junior forward Barry Foster is the man for the job.

Foster scored twice in a span of just over 10 minutes Thursday to lead the Bisons to a 2-0 victory over the Bearcats in non-conference action.

Foster also scored twice in Harding's 3-2 victory last season over Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, including the game-winner in overtime. In his career, he has seven goals in six games against the Bearcats, including three game-winning goals.

The victory improved Harding's record to 9-3-0 overall, extending its school-record win total. Southwest Baptist, a Division II school in the MIAA, remained winless at 0-11-1.

First-year Harding coach Jon Ireland knew of Foster's previous success against Southwest Baptist and challenged him to keep his scoring run going against the Bearcats.

"Barry took advantage of his opportunities and finished his chances," Ireland said. "It was something he had not been doing, but this should really give him confidence."

Foster's first goal came in the 63rd minute as he raced down the left side and beat Southwest goalkeeper Lajos Zadravecz. He struck again in the 73rd minute. Oliver Callado collected a free kick from Harding goalkeeper Michael Wasson and found Foster for his second goal of the game and third of the season.

Wasson stopped two Southwest Baptist shots on goal and recorded his seventh shutout of the season. It was his eighth career shutout, setting a Harding record.

Harding plays the first of three straight home games next Wednesday against Southern Nazarene in Great American Conference play. The game begins at 7 p.m. at Stevens Field.
