JONESBORO, Ark. – Junior guard Falan Miller made five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points as the Harding women's basketball team fell 83-73 to Division I Arkansas State in its only exhibition game. The Lady Bisons will open their season on Saturday when it takes on Minnesota State Moorhead in Kansas City, Missouri at 2 p.m. The game will be played at Johnson County Community College.
FIRST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Harding led for the first five minutes of the first quarter until Jada Ford hit a 3-pointer for Arkansas State to put the Red Wolves up 14-13. Arkansas State held the Lady Bisons scoreless for the final two minutes as it led 26-20 after the first.
SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Harding battled back in the second quarter as the Lady Bisons tied the game at 29 when Caroline Hogue made a layup. Arkansas State held Harding scoreless for the next two minutes as it took a 36-29 lead with 5:21 left in the half. The Lady Bisons continued to hold their own the rest of the quarter as Arkansas State took a 42-37 lead into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Harding continued to battle in the third quarter and pulled within two 52-50 after Chelsea Heidebrecht hit a 3-pointer for the Lady Bisons. A layup by Sydnie Jones with 10 seconds remaining in the quarter pulled Harding within four 61-57 with a quarter remaining.
FOURTH QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Harding stayed close and tied the game at 61 with 8:36 left with a Falan Miller layup. The Lady Bisons continued to keep the game close and pulled within one 67-68 with 5:47 left on an old fashion three-point play by Andrea Haney. Arkansas State held Harding scoreless for the next two minutes as it went on a 7-0 run to lead 75-67. Harding cut the lead to five (75-70) with 3:12 left on a layup by Hogue but Arkansas State closed the game on an 8-0 run.
TEAM/INDIVIDUAL STATS
Harding shot 38.6 percent, making 27-of-70 field goals, including 9-of-25 from behind the 3-point line.
Arkansas State outrebounded Harding 45-43.
Caroline Hogue captured a double-double for the Lady Bisons with 13 points and 10 rebounds. She also added two blocks.
Jada Ford led Arkansas State with 15 points, including 4-of-9 3-pointers. Lauren Bradshaw added 15 points and 10 rebounds and Dominique Oliver added 15 points.
