Harding Track and Field Opens Indoor Season at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. – Harding men's and women's track and field teams opened their indoor season Friday at the ASU Kickoff Klassic at Arkansas State's Convocation Center.

The Lady Bisons had only one competitor in action Friday. Sophomore Vanessa Shields placed sixth of seven in the weight throw with a mark of 42 feet, 6¼ inches. Her throw came on her third of six attempts, was her career best by more than 12 feet and was the fifth-best mark by a Lady Bison in Harding's NCAA era.

Harding is scheduled to have 13 women in competition on Saturday.

Three Bisons competed Friday. Senior Josh Syrotchen placed third of seven in the men's weight throw with a mark of 56-06.50. It was just off his school record and his second-best career throw. Junior Tru Pierce, competing for the first time indoors, was seventh with a throw of 39-08.

Junior Davon Hulse placed 10th in the long jump with a mark of 18-05.25. It was his indoor long jump competition.

Nine Bisons will be in action Saturday.
