Francis Hits Six Threes, Leads Harding over LeMoyne-Owen

SEARCY – Harding made 13 3-pointers, including six from senior Will Francis, and the Bisons extended their home winning streak to 11 games with a 73-65 non-conference victory over LeMoyne-Owen on Thursday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding improved to 6-2 overall with its fourth home victory of the season. LeMoyne-Owen, a member of the NCAA Division II Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, dropped to 1-6. The Magicians have played all seven of their games away from home.

Harding led 36-32 at halftime, but LeMoyne-Owen regained the lead with 15:54 left on a Desmond Black layup. The Bisons scored the next six points on a Francis 3-pointer and a three-point play by Tim Wagner and led for the rest of the game.

With 11:25 left, Daaron Maston connected on a 3-pointer to pull the Magicians within 50-48. Harding responded with 3-pointers on three of its next five possession with Stefan Andelkovic, Zac Ward and Francis all hitting from long range. Francis' 3-pointer pushed the Bisons to a 61-50 lead with 8:50 left. LeMoyne-Owen closed to within four with 4:06 left, but another Francis 3-pointer ended the Magician threat.

Francis led Harding with 20 points, hitting 6-of-10 3-pointers, and added seven assists. He moved into 25th in career scoring at Harding with 1,148 points. Andelkovic made four 3-pointers and scored 18 points, and Tim Wagner had 15.

Maston led LeMoyne-Owen with 15 points. He was one of four Magicians with 10 or more.

Harding made its first five shots and took an early 10-point lead at 22-12 on a 3-pointer by Wagner.

LeMoyne-Owen answered with a 14-0 run over a seven-minute stretch that gave the Magicians a 26-22 lead with 7:20 left in the first half.

LeMoyne-Owen missed its next eight shots and was only 1-of-10 to close the half. Harding outscored LeMoyne-Owen 14-6 during the stretch and consecutive 3-pointers from Francis put the Bisons back in the lead.

Francis and Andelkovic both made three 3-pointers in the first half and led Harding with nine points each.

Harding, the top defense against the 3-pointer in the Great American Conference, limited LeMoyne-Owen to only 5-of-26 shooting from 3-point range (19.2 percent). The Bisons shot a season-high 37 3-pointers and made 35 percent. Harding was a perfect 10-of-10 at the free-throw line.

Harding will be off until Jan. 5, when it hosts East Central in GAC action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
