Harding Men's Tennis Blanks John Brown, Moves Up to No. 8 in Central Region

SEARCY – Harding men's tennis breezed past John Brown on Wednesday, winning its home opener 9-0 for its fourth win in its last five matches and its fourth shutout this season.

Harding improved to 5-2 overall and will take on Arkansas-Fort Smith on Thursday at 2 p.m. The Bisons and Lions played on Feb. 24 in Fort Smith with Harding winning 9-0 in a match much closer than the final score indicated.

John Brown, an NAIA school located in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, fell to 1-4 with the loss.

Harding won all three doubles matches without losing a game, something the team has not done this season. It was the fourth consecutive victory for Harding's No. 1 and No. 3 doubles teams. Carlos Crisostomo and Henrique Vieira improved to 6-1 at No. 1 and 9-3 overall. The No. 3 team of Brandon Hogland and Chase Stumne also improved to 6-1 in dual matches and are 7-4 as a duo. Neto Cacace and Adrian Torrico, Harding's No. 2 team, improved to 5-2 in dual matches.

All six singles matches finished in straight sets, and Harding lost only 10 games in the six matches.

Stumne, Harding's No. 6, won 6-1, 6-1 to give Harding a 4-0 lead. He improved to 6-1 in dual matches.

Hogland clinched the match with Harding's fifth point, winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5. Hogland is 6-5 overall and 5-2 in dual matches.

Harding also picked up singles victories from Vieira (No. 4), Crisostomo (No. 1), Cacace (No. 3) and Torrico (No. 2). Torrico is 6-1 in dual singles and has a team-best 11-3 overall record.

In other men's tennis developments Wednesday, Harding moved up from No. 10 to No. 8 in the Oracle/ITA Division II Central Region Rankings. Crisostomo is the 20th-ranked singles player in the region, and Crisostomo and Vieira are the fifth-ranked doubles team.
