DURANT, Okla. – The Harding softball team swept Southeastern Oklahoma in Great American Conference action on Saturday. The Lady Bisons won 6-3 and 7-4 to give the Savage Storm their first two GAC losses of the season. It also snapped a Southeastern Oklahoma 15 game winning streak.
Harding moves to 21-9 overall and 13-5 in the GAC. Southeastern Oklahoma falls to 18-8 overall and 14-2 in the GAC.
Game One Key Innings (Harding 6, Southeastern Oklahoma 3)
- Harding opened the game, scoring four runs on four hits in the top of the first inning. Brookelynn Moon hit a triple to right field with the bases loaded to lead the Lady Bisons in the inning.
- Southeastern Oklahoma got a run back in the second on two hits and a Harding error.
- Brookelynn Moon picked up her fourth RBI of the game in the third inning when she singled through the left side to score Peyton Mills from third.
- The Savage Storm scored another run in the third to pull within three, 5-2.
- Harding scored its final run in the fourth when Alexus Lawellin hit a double to left center that scored Courtney Derrick from third. It was Lawellin's second RBI of the game.
- Southeastern Oklahoma pulled within two scoring a run in the fourth inning.
- The Savage Storm had runners at second and third with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but Harding got Jordyn James to ground out to end the game.
Game One Key Statistics
- Harding had seven hits in the game by six different players.
- It was the third time this season Brookelynn Moon has had four RBIs in a game and the sixth time this season she has had a multiple RBI game.
- Peyton Mills pushed her hitting streak to 10 games, the longest current streak by a Lady Bison.
- Hannah Johnson picked up the win for Harding to improve to 10-2 on the season. She threw her sixth complete game, only giving up one earned run and striking out three.
- Southeastern Oklahoma's starter Jessica Seay received the loss to fall to 9-3 on the season. She went 3 1/3 innings, gave up five earned runs and had one strikeout.
Game Two Key Innings (Harding 7, Southeastern Oklahoma 4)
- Harding got things started in the top of the first when Kimmy Hendricks hit a double to right center to score Courtney Derrick from second.
- Southeastern Oklahoma took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second scoring two runs on a single by Courtney Riddle.
- The Lady Bisons answered back with three runs in the top of the third on three hits to take a 4-2 lead. With two runners on, Kimmy Hendricks hit her fifth home run on the season.
- After two scoreless innings, Southeastern Oklahoma got a run back in the fourth on two hits and a Harding error.
- Harding got three more insurance runs with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth.
- Southeastern Oklahoma made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh scoring a run with two outs but the Lady Bisons got out of the inning as the Savage Storm stranded two runners.
Game Two Key Statistics
- Harding had 11 hits in the game for 12th time this season.
- It is the third time this season Kimmy Hendricks has had five RBIs in a game.
- Peyton Mills moved her hitting streak to 11 games, going 1-for-3 in the game.
- Ashley Smith received the win for Harding to improve her record to 6-3. She pitched six innings, gave up four earned runs and struck out two. Kelly Beth Ernest came on in the seventh and gave up one hit and struck out a batter to earn her seventh save of the season.
- Emily Cudd got the loss for Southeastern Oklahoma to fall to 9-3 on the season. She pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up eight hits and struck out four.
