SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Harding softball team split with Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday in Great American Conference action, winning the first game 9-3 but dropped the second game 8-0 in five innings.
Harding moves to 15-7 overall and 8-4 in the GAC. Oklahoma Baptist moves to 5-12 overall and 3-9 in the GAC.
Game One Key Innings (Harding 9, Oklahoma Baptist 3)
- Harding took a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning when Kimmy Hendricks doubled in Peyton Mills from second.
- Harding added three more runs on four hits in the third inning, led by Hendricks hit a double to left field that scored Alexus Lawellin and Courtney Derrick. Kinsey Beck drove in Harding's other run.
- Harding took a 5-0 lead in the fourth when Alexus Lawellin singled in Amanda Berdon
- Oklahoma Baptist got on the board in the bottom of the four scoring two runs on four hits.
- Harding scored four more runs on five hits in the top of the fifth, led by Courtney Derrick who drove in two.
- Oklahoma Baptist scored its final run in the seventh after Shalee Cordell hit a double that scored Kasey Jo Burgess.
Game One Key Statistics
- Harding had 14 hits in the game as six different players had two hits.
- Shalee Cordell and Madison Vaughan each had two hits for Oklahoma Baptist.
- Harding starting pitcher Hannah Johnson got the win, pitching three innings. She improves to 7-1 on the season.
- Starting pitcher Bailee Saye got the loss for Oklahoma Baptist, pitching four innings. She falls to 2-2 on the season.
Game Two Key Innings (Oklahoma Baptist 8, Harding 0 – 5 Innings)
- Oklahoma Baptist got on the board in the second inning when Corbi Parasich hit a three-run homerun down the left field line.
- Oklahoma Baptist added three more on one hit and a Harding error in the third inning led by Jill Shipman who singled in two runs.
- Oklahoma Baptist added another run in the fourth and a run in the fifth to get the win in five innings.
Game Two Key Statistics
- Harding was held to two hits in the game. Peyton Mills and Brookelynn Moon each had a hit.
- Oklahoma Baptist had five hits, led by Jill Shipman who had two.
- Harding's starting pitcher Kristen Dempsey got the loss and falls to 1-1 on the season. She pitched two 2/3 innings, giving up three hits and six runs.
- McKenzie Jones got the win for Oklahoma Baptist, improving to 2-5 on the season. She threw five innings and struck out six.
