Slow First Half Sinks Harding in GAC Tournament Final

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Harding battled back from a 25-point first-half deficit but the hole was too much and the Bisons fell 72-56 to Ouachita Baptist on Sunday in the championship game of the Great American Conference Tournament at Bruin Fieldhouse.

Ouachita (19-13) will receive the GAC's automatic bid into the Central Region tournament. Harding (20-10) will await word of its postseason fate when the NCAA announces at-large bids at 9:30 p.m. this evening on NCAA.com.

Ouachita shot 56 percent in the first half and went on a 23-1 run that gave the Tigers a 41-19 lead with 3:38 left before the break.

Harding shot 27 percent in the first half and trailed 48-25 at halftime.

Harding went on an 18-4 run to start the second half and pulled within seven, 52-45, on a Will Francis jumper with 13:20 remaining but the Bisons never got any closer.

The Bisons shot 33 percent in the second half, but its 29.7 percent shooting for the game was its lowest percentage of the season. Harding was 8-of-32 from 3-point range.

The Tigers shot 39 percent but only 19 percent in the second half. Ouachita made 14-of-17 free throws in the second half to stall Harding's comeback.

Ouachita held a 52-36 rebound advantage and held a 15-2 advantage on second-chance points.

Tirrell Brown, the tournament MVP, led Ouachita with 24 points and eight rebounds. He had 15 points in the first half.

Stefan Andelkovic led Harding with 15 points, and Blake McNair had 12 points.

Harding's all-tournament honorees were Jacob Gibson, Reggie Anthony and Will Francis.
