Harding Baseball Raps Out 12 Hits; Defeats Arkansas Tech 6-1

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Harding tied a season high with 12 hits, including three each from Zac Stewart and Davis Richardson and defeated Arkansas Tech 6-1 Monday in a non-conference game at Tech Field. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was moved up due to Tuesday's forecast for rain.
Harding improved to 10-10 overall with the victory and will travel to Bethany, Oklahoma, to take on Southern Nazarene for a three-game Great American Conference series beginning Friday at 2 p.m. Tech fell to 9-12 overall and plays at Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee this weekend.

KEY INNINGS
  • Harding took a 2-0 lead in the first and improved to 9-1 when scoring in the first inning this season. The first five Bison hitters reached in the inning. Zac Stewart led off with the first of two doubles in the game. Grant Guest walked and Noah Chandler's infield single loaded the bases. Zach Beasley and Blake Coward followed with RBI singles.
  • The Bisons made it 4-0 in the fifth with two more runs, both coming on Coward's single to left. Stewart, who started the inning with a single, and Guest, who reached on an error, scored the runs.
  • Tech cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth, scoring an unearned run.
  • Guest drove in Harding's run in the sixth on a single to left that scored Stewart, who had doubled to left with two outs.
  • Richardson concluded Harding's scoring in the seventh with a two-out, bad-hop single that scored Beasley from second.

  • Harding has outscored its opponents 15-3 in the first inning this season.
  • Harding was 7-for-15 with runners in scoring position, and Arkansas Tech was only 1-for-8.
  • Reed Roberts (1-1) earned his first win of the season, pitching a career-high six innings and allowing only one unearned run on eight hits. He walked two and struck out three.

  • Tech starter Ethan Taylor (0-1) suffered the loss. He allowed two earned runs on six hits in four innings.
