DENTON, Texas – The Harding volleyball team fell 3-1 against Lubbock Christian and 3-1 to Newman on Friday to open the 2016 campaign at the Hilton Garden Inn Classic.

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN MATCH RECAP
Harding started strong winning the first set 25-20 but dropped the next three sets (28-26, 25-18, 25-16) to fall to Lubbock Christian 3-1.
HU-TAMU-C TEAM STATS
Harding had 49 kills but had 30 attack errors to hit .112.
Lubbock Christian hit .157 with 49 kills
Lubbock Christian had five service aces and won the battle at the net with 11 blocks.
HU-LCU INDIVIDUAL STATS
Sophomore middle blocker Zoe Hardin led Harding with 12 kills and hit .321. Senior setter Abigail Glosup had 37 assists for the Lady Bisons
Sophomore defensive specialist Taylor Lake led the Harding defense with 22 digs. Freshman outside hitter Alex Nolan and sophomore Taylor Eubank each added 12 digs.
Emily Hanaway and Christina Tavo each had 12 kills to lead Lubbock Christian
NEWMAN MATCH RECAP
Harding dropped the first two sets 25-16 and 27-25 before winning the third set 26-24. Newman won the match after winning the fourth set 25-22.
HU-NU TEAM STATS
Harding had 46 kills but was held to hitting .114.
Newman had 62 kills on 180 attacks and went onto hit .200. The Jets had 105 digs with five players with 10 or more.
Harding led the battle at the net with 13 blocks.
HU-NU INDIVIDUAL STATS
Sophomores Emily Clayton and Zoe Hardin each had 11 kills to lead the Lady Bisons. Senior Sara Smith added 10.
Sophomore Taylor Lake led the defense with 25 digs. Alex Nolan added 16 digs for Harding followed by Taylor Eubank who had 15.
Senior setter Abigail Glosup captured a double-double with 39 assists and 11 digs.
Nolan and sophomore Zoe Hardin each had six blocks for Harding. Sara Smith added five blocks and Emily Clayton had four.
Emily Harvey led Newman with 18 kills and Anna Burton led the defense with 31 digs.

Harding will wrap up the classic on Saturday when it faces host team Texas Woman's at 11:30 a.m., and Texas A&M-Commerce at 4:30 p.m.
