Foster's Early Second-Half Goal Lifts Harding Men's Soccer over Union

SEARCY – Harding senior forward Barry Foster scored 72 seconds into the second half to give the Bisons a 1-0 victory over Union University on Wednesday at Stevens Field. It was Harding's home opener and gave the Bisons (2-1) a winning record after three games for the first time since 2012.

Union, a member of the NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference, fell to 0-3-0 and remained without a goal in its first three games.

After a scoreless first half, Harding's pressing offense paid off in the 47th minute. Foster and freshman Braeden Grundy worked a give-and-go at the top of the box, and Union goalkeeper Igor Luczensky saved Foster's first shot. Luczensky had no chance to stop Foster's second shot, his third career game-winning goal.

Union's best chance to equalize came on a penalty kick in the 69th minute. Harding committed a foul in the box, but Union's Zac Fletcher slid a right-footed shot wide of the left post.

The win over Union was Harding's first in five meetings, which included a 2-0 win by the Bulldogs last season in Jackson, Tennessee.

Harding last won its home opener in 2011, a 1-0 victory over Lynn.

Sophomore Michael Wasson made three saves for the Bisons and recorded his second straight shutout. He had two saves in Harding's 4-0 victory Saturday at Dallas Christian. The Bisons have yielded only one goal in three games this season.

Team Statistics
Harding outshot Union 16-15 overall and 5-3 in shots on goal. The Bisons had four corner kicks to the Bulldogs' two.

Individual Statistics
Foster had five of Harding's 16 shots, including two of the five shots on goal. Andre Silva had five of Union's 15 shots.
