WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Harding made a season-high 15 3-pointers, including 10 in the first half, and defeated Southwestern Oklahoma 83-76 on Thursday in Great American Conference play at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
Harding improved to 11-5 overall and 8-4 in GAC action. The Bisons remained in third place in the GAC standings. The victory was Harding's seventh in its last eight games against Southwestern, who fell to 5-12 overall and 2-9 in conference. The Bulldogs have lost six of their last seven.
Harding shot 44 percent in the second half, made five 3-pointers and shot 14-of-18 from the free-throw line to maintain its lead the entire half.
Ten of Harding's 13 field goals in the first half were from 3-point range, including one at the buzzer from Tim Wagner gave the Bisons a 40-37 halftime lead.
Harding trailed by as many as 11, 26-15, with 7:41 left in the first half. The Bisons went on a 10-3 run over the next three minutes, and tied the game at 34-34 on a Stefan Andelkovic 3-pointer with 2:25 left. Will Francis made a long 3-pointer with 1:04 left, and Marquise Champion answered with his fourth 3-pointer of the half.
Champion scored 35 points, hitting 13-of-28 from the field, including 9-of-19 from 3-point range. It was the most points scored by a Harding opponent this season.
Francis led Harding with 18 points. He was 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Andelkovic scored 17, hitting 6-of-12 overall and 5-of-11 on 3-pointers. Wagner scored 12 points and added eight assists, and Braden Eggleston matched his career high with 12.
Harding entered the game as Division II's top team against the 3-pointer, but Southwestern connected on 14-of-41 3-point attempts.
Harding will carry its four-game winning streak into Saturday's road game against Northwestern Oklahoma in Alva. Tipoff is at 3 p.m.
