Late Scoring Runs Lead Harding Past Southeastern Oklahoma

SEARCY – Harding shot 62 percent in the second half and overcame a six-point halftime deficit in an 80-72 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday in Great American Conference play at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding won at home for the 12th time in its last 13 games at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House and improved to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the GAC. It was the Bisons' third straight win over Southeastern, who dropped to 4-8 overall and 0-6 in conference games. The Savage Storm has lost five straight overall.

Harding trailed for much of the game, including 45-39 at halftime. Southeastern made 11 3-pointers in the first half, five coming from freshman Kevin Buckingham.

Harding trailed 65-58 with 9:23 left, but went on a 10-0 run with senior Stefan Andelkovic hitting a 25-foot 3-pointer at the top of the key that gave the Bisons a 68-65 lead, its first since the 8:01 mark of the first half.

With the game tied at 68-68 and under three minutes remaining, junior Zac Ward hit his career-best fifth 3-pointer of the game. It jumpstarted a 9-0 Harding run that concluded with four Wagner free throws and left the Bisons with a 77-68 lead.

Wagner led Harding with 24 points, including 8-of-9 at the free-throw line. He has scored 10 or more points in each game this season. Senior Will Francis had 18 points and led the team with six assists. Ward scored a career-high 15 points, connecting on 5-of-9 3-pointers.

Buckingham led Southeastern with 23 points, 20 of them coming in the first half.

Southeastern made only 1-of-9 3-pointers in the second half, while Harding hit 6-of-11.

The Savage Storm committed 18 turnovers that Harding turned into 31 points, its highest points-off-turnover figure of the season. The Bisons had only scored 26 points off turnovers in their previous three games.

Harding goes on the road for two games next week, beginning with a Thursday game against Arkansas-Monticello.
