DURANT, Okla. – Harding women's basketball held a lead early in the fourth quarter but a run by Southeastern Oklahoma midway through the period gave the Savage Storm a 75-65 victory over the Lady Bisons Thursday at Bloomer Sullivan Arena. The game was the Great American Conference opener for both teams.
Harding fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the GAC and continues conference play Saturday at East Central in Ada, Oklahoma. Southeastern improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference and snapped a four-game losing streak against Harding.
Harding trailed for most of the first three quarters before scoring the first five points of the fourth quarter. Peyton Padgett's layup with 8:58 gave the Lady Bisons a 50-49 lead, it first of the game.
Harding led 52-51 on a Carissa Caples layup with 7:32 left, but Southeastern went on a 12-2 run over the next three and a half minutes and led the rest of the way.
The Lady Bisons had 19 offensive rebounds and outscored the Savage Storm 29-2 on second-chance points. But Harding's rebound advantage was not enough to overcome Southeastern's success at the free-throw line.
Harding committed 30 fouls, and Southeastern shot 27 of 35 at the free-throw line. The Lady Bisons made only 7 of 17 free throws (41.2 percent). Southeastern's Katie Webb did most of the damage, connecting of 14 of 14 free throws and leading the Savage Storm with 23 points.
Padgett led Harding with 14 points, and Falan Miller had 11.
