Harding Men's Soccer Defeated 3-1 in GAC Tournament Final

SEARCY – No. 2 seed Ouachita Baptist used a penalty kick and two set-piece goals from Michi Forbess to erase an early Harding lead and defeat the Bisons 3-1 in the Great American Conference Tournament championship game Sunday at Stevens Soccer Field.

No. 1 seed Harding (7-7-4) scored first in the eighth minute. Braeden Grundy received a long pass along the right side and send a lunging shot past Ouachita goalkeeper Edward Pacheco inside the far post. It was Grundy's sixth goal of the season.

Harding's lead was short-lived. Only 82 seconds later, Forbess scored on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box to tie the game. It was his third goal of the season.

Ouachita (9-7-1) took the lead for good with eight minutes left in the first half. Harding goalkeeper Michael Wasson picked up a yellow card for a collision with a Ouachita player in the box, and Blake Beshirs scored on the ensuing penalty kick.

Harding, the GAC regular season champion, outshot Ouachita 15-2 in the second half, but one of the two Tiger shots resulted in the team's third goal. Forbess hit a looping free kick from 25 yards out that eluded Wasson for Forbess's second goal of the game and fourth of the season.

The victory gave Ouachita its second GAC Tournament championship. The Tigers also won in 2015. Harding was the 2016 champion.

Harding's Aaron Craig, Van Thang and Braeden Grundy each earned All-Tournament honors.
