Big First Inning Lifts No. 7 St. Edward's Over Harding Baseball

AUSTIN, Texas – Seventh-ranked St. Edward's sent 14 batters to the plate and scored eight runs in the first inning in a 16-0 victory over Harding on Saturday in non-conference baseball action at Lucian-Hamilton Stadium. Harding won the opener of the series Friday, and St. Edward's won games two and three.

St. Edward's (3-3) scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings and had 17 hits in the game, stopped after seven innings due to the NCAA's 10-run rule.

Harding (1-5) had five hits, three coming from Jesse Cox, his first career three-hit game. Chris Taylor and Ben Brauss also had hits.

Jackson Ward (0-2) started and took the loss for Harding. The Bisons used seven pitchers, with sophomore Raiff Beever the most effective. Beever struck out one and needed only six pitches to get through a scoreless fifth inning.

Ballard Infante (1-0) had five strikeouts in six innings to earn the win for St. Edward's.

Harding begins its Great American Conference schedule next weekend. The Bisons will be in Alva, Oklahoma, for a three-game series against Northwestern Oklahoma. The series will begin Friday with a single game at 3 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader begins at noon.
