Harding Women's Basketball Defeats Henderson State, Clinches GAC Tourney No. 1 Seed

SEARCY – Harding's women shot 52 percent and rolled to an 84-58 victory over Henderson State on Thursday in Great American Conference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

With the victory, 20th-ranked Harding improved to 21-3 overall and 18-1 in conference games. The Lady Bisons clinched a tie for the regular-season conference championship and clinched the No. 1 seed in the GAC Tournament.

Harding has won seven straight overall and 14 straight at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House, the third-longest home winning streak in program history.

Henderson State fell to 8-17 overall and 8-11 in conference. The Reddies have lost nine of their last 10 and remain in a three-way tie for sixth in the GAC standings.

Harding scored on a Caroline Hogue jumper 12 seconds into the game and led throughout. The Lady Bisons made nine of their first 10 shots and led 26-19 after one quarter.

Henderson State pulled within five points on a Torrie Thompson 3-pointer that cut Harding's lead to 32-27 with 5:45 left before half. But Harding's Falan Miller made four 3-pointers during the rest of the quarter and Harding led 46-29 at halftime.

Harding, who outscored Henderson State 44-18 in the paint, extended its lead to as many as 30 points early in the fourth quarter.

Hogue led Harding with 16 points, Miller added 14, Sydney Layrock had 13 points and nine rebounds, and A'ndi Haney had 11 points and nine assists.

Blu Jones led Henderson State with 13 points. The Reddies shot only 29 percent in the game despite making 10 3-pointers.

Harding will begin a three-game road trip to end the season Saturday. The Lady Bisons will take on Southern Arkansas in Magnolia at 1 p.m.
