ALVA, Okla. – Harding junior Chris Taylor drove in the eventual game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning and the Bisons defeated Northwestern Oklahoma 5-3 in the second game of a Great American Conference doubleheader Saturday at Myers Stadium. Northwestern won the opener 6-5 on a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth, but Harding won the series two games to one.
With two outs in the top of the 10th, Grant Guest singled up the middle. He stole second and scored on Taylor's single to give the Bisons a 3-2 lead. Luke Van Dover followed that with his second home run of the series that put Harding ahead 5-2.
Northwestern scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 10th, but Harding held on for the victory. Mason Faulkner (1-2) pitched the final four innings and earned the win for Harding. He allowed three hits and no earned runs and struck out two.
Jackson Ward started and gave up only one earned run in five innings. Logan McCall pitched a scoreless sixth before giving way to Faulkner.
Reliever David Sanchez (0-1) gave up Harding's three runs in the 10th and took the loss.
Guest and Jesse Cox both had two hits for Harding.
Harding fell behind 5-0 after three innings in game one and trailed until the seventh.
Guest led off the seventh with a double to left. One out later, Tyler Mohr was hit by a pitch and Cox walked to load the bases. After a strikeout, Luke Van Dover lined two-run single to left, and Ben Brauss launched a three-run home run to tie the game at 5-5.
With two outs in the ninth, Northwestern's Steven Deckard doubled down the left field line, and scored the game-winning run when Casey Dickerman singled up the middle off Faulkner.
Brauss was 4-for-5 with three singles, a home run and three RBIs.
Harding returns to Searcy to host Union University of Jackson, Tennessee, on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
