MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas scored 11 straight points to open the second half and pulled away from Harding 88-58 on Saturday in Great American Conference men's play at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.
Harding dropped to 14-10 overall and 11-9 in the GAC and remained in fifth place in the conference standings. Southern Arkansas, who snapped a six-game losing streak against Harding, improved to 12-14 overall and 10-10 in conference, one game behind the Bisons.
Southern Arkansas shot only 37 percent in the second half of the first meeting between the teams this season, an 84-61 Harding win. But Saturday, the Muleriders made eight of their first 10 shots in the second half and finished the half 21-of-35 (60 percent).
Southern Arkansas made eight 3-pointers in the second half and outscored Harding 55-30 after halftime.
There were eight lead changes in the first half, but Southern Arkansas held an 18-10 advantage in the paint and led 33-28. Harding shot 29 percent in the first half and was 4-of-19 from 3-point range.
Keeton Tennison made six 3-pointers and led Southern Arkansas with 25 points. CJ Elkins added 18 points, and Denarious Lockhart was 7-of-7 from the field and scored 17 points.
Harding had three players – Stefan Andelkovic, Adam Horn and J.P. Brandon – score 11 points each. Horn's total was a career high.
Saturday's game was the first of three straight road games. The trip continues Thursday against Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant and Saturday against East Central in Ada.
