Oklahoma Baptist Sweeps Harding in GAC Doubleheader

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist's pitching staff held Harding to three runs in a doubleheader Saturday and defeated the Bisons 6-0 and 12-3 in Great American Conference action.

Oklahoma Baptist completed the sweep of Harding after winning Friday's game 10-0. Harding is now 7-17 and 6-9 in conference. Oklahoma Baptist is 15-9 overall and 9-6 in the GAC.

Oklahoma Baptist scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning of game one, and Harding starter Reed Roberts hung zeros for the next four innings. In the sixth, Oklahoma Baptist's Hunter Heath hit a two-run home run to make the score 3-0.

Roberts (0-4) lasted into the seventh. He allowed only four hits and four runs (three earned) and struck out a season-high seven batters.

Oklahoma Baptist used two hits and three walks to add three more in the seventh.

Carson McPherson (3-1) started, pitched seven innings and allowed four hits and struck out eight, and earned the win. Reliever Nick Burnham gave up two hits and struck out two.

Grant Guest had two of Harding's six hits, his sixth multi-hit game of the season. Jesse Cox had a double, his first of the season.

Chris Taylor drove in Harding's first two runs in game two. He drove in Luke Van Dover with a double in the first and hit a solo home run to left in the sixth. Van Dover's third hit of the game scored Guest in the top of the seventh.

Oklahoma Baptist scored four in the first on three hits. Juan Gonzalez doubled with the bases loaded to drive in three in the inning off Harding starter Mason Faulkner (1-3). Oklahoma Baptist sent 14 batters to the plate and scored eight runs in the fourth. Two of the runs came on a Nick Burnham home run.

Faulkner gave up seven earned runs in three innings. Sam Alender was Harding's most effective reliever. He pitched 2 2/3 innings and did not allow a run.

Taylor and Van Dover both had multi-hit games for Harding.

Harding's next action is Tuesday. The Bisons play a single, non-conference game at Union in Jackson, Tennessee. Harding hosts Southern Nazarene next weekend in a GAC series.
