BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Harding averaged 10.5 3-pointers per game during the regular season, but missed 20 of its first 21 long-range attempts Thursday in a 72-58 loss to Arkansas-Monticello in the quarterfinals of the Great American Conference Tournament at Bruin Fieldhouse.
With the loss, Harding, the No. 7 seed in the tournament, ended its season with a 14-13 record. Arkansas-Monticello, the No. 2 seed, advanced to meet the winner of No. 3 Arkansas Tech and No. 6 Southern Arkansas on Saturday at 8 p.m. The Weevils improved to 22-5.
Harding finished the game 5-of-35 (14.7 percent) from 3-point range, its lowest percentage of the season.
A three-point play by Will Francis with 6:42 left tied the game at 22-22. Harding had only one field goal the rest of the half, a layup from J.P. Brandon, and Arkansas-Monticello closed the half on a 12-2 run and led 34-24 at halftime.
Francis scored the first bucket of the second half, but UAM scored the next six and pulled out to a 48-30 lead with 11:58 left. Harding closed to within 12 at 57-45 on a Francis 3-pointer with 5:00 left but got no closer.
Francis led Harding with 13 points, and fellow senior Stefan Andelkovic scored 12. Zac Ward made two 3-pointers and scored 10.
Karim Mawuenyega led Arkansas-Monticello with 22 points. Derylton Hill had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Cobe Goosby had 11 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists. His 17 rebounds tied a GAC Tournament record.
