BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – No. 13 Harding posted the best defensive effort in Great American Conference Tournament history in a 77-45 victory over Arkansas-Monticello in the quarterfinals on Thursday at Bruin Fieldhouse.
Harding's offense was not too bad either.
With the victory, Harding, the tournament's No. 1 seed advanced to meet the winner of Friday's No. 4 Southeastern Oklahoma vs. No. 5 East Central matchup. The semifinal game will be Saturday at noon.
Harding's victory was its 11th straight and 19th in its last 20 games. The Lady Bisons improved to 25-3 overall, the third-most victories in program history.
Arkansas-Monticello, the No. 8 seed, lost its 12th straight to Harding and ended its season at 11-16.
Harding's 45 points allowed broke the previous GAC Tournament record of 46 points allowed by Harding, against over Arkansas-Monticello, in the 2015 semifinals.
Harding held UAM to only 33 percent shooting, including only 2-of-13 from 3-point range. The Blossoms had only 17 field goals in the game.
Harding led 13-7 after the first quarter and pulled away, outscoring Arkansas-Monticello in every quarter.
The Lady Bisons outscored the Blossoms 30-10 in the paint and 18-2 on second-chance points. Harding held a 46-25 rebound advantage.
Junior Sydney Layrock led Harding with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Falan Miller made three of Harding's nine 3-pointers and scored 12. Caroline Hogue had 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Correy Moyer added 10 points.
Treasure Evans led UAM with 13 points.
