Harding Men's Track and Field Wins Five Events at Southern Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Harding men's track and field won five events, including two running events and three field events, Saturday at the Southern Arkansas Don Veach Invitational.

Senior Josh Syrotchen won both the shot put and the discus, junior Cameron Bienz won the high jump, sophomore Camden Barrett won the 1,500 meters, and senior Daniel Evans won the 5,000 meters.

Syrotchen won the discus for the second straight weekend. On his first of six throws, Syrotchen recorded the winning mark of 190 feet, 7 inches, just short of his NCAA-leading 194-08 last week at Rhodes. It was his 13th career event victory in the discus.

Syrotchen also won the shot put for the first time in his career. His mark of 49-02.50 was not his best of the season but won by more than two feet.

Bienz cleared 6-04.75 to win the high jump for the sixth time in his career.

Barrett led from the start in the 1,500 meters and won in 4:00.56. It was his third career event victory in the 1,500 meters.

Evans, who has won the 3,000-meter steeplechase twice in his career, won the 5,000 meters for the first time with a time of 15:55.05.

Harding also had four members competing in the second day of the Hendrix Spring Break Multi in Conway, Arkansas. Senior Trey Adkison was Harding's top finisher. He placed third among seven competitors with 5,466 points. Adkison scored more than 700 points in the 100 meters, 400 meters and the pole vault. Ryan Cruse of Central College won with 6,038 points.

Harding's Austin Nelson was fifth with 5,317 points, followed by Kendell Naceanceno (4,911) and Ronnie Smith (4,111).

Adkison's point total ranks 16th among Division II decathletes this season.
