Henderson State Pitching Slows Harding Baseball

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Three Henderson State pitchers combined to throw consecutive shutouts as the Reddies defeated Harding's baseball team 2-0 and 3-0 on Saturday and swept the three-game Great American Conference series. Henderson State won Friday night's game 5-3.

Harding is 4-13 overall and 3-6 in GAC games. Henderson State is 12-4 overall and 7-2 in conference games. The Bisons' next action is a non-conference game Tuesday against Hendrix in Conway, Arkansas.

In the opener, Harding had six hits but none of them came in the team's eight at-bats with runners in scoring position, and the Bisons fell 2-0.

Henderson State was only 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position, but those two hits came in the second inning and led to the Reddies' first run. Parker Jones had an infield single with two outs that loaded the bases before Jordan Taylor singled to left to score Brentten Schwaab off Harding starter Reed Roberts, who escaped the inning without any further damage.

A two-out error by Harding in the third gave Henderson State its second run. The Bisons had the tying run on base with one out in the ninth but did not score.

Roberts (0-3) had his best start of the season and allowed only one earned run on five hits in six innings. He walked six and struck out six. Freshman Sam Alender pitched the seventh and eighth innings and did not allow a hit, striking out two.

Chris Hunt (4-1) pitched eight strong innings for Henderson State, yielding five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. Blake Patterson pitched the ninth for his fifth save.

Freshman Connor Kelly had two of Harding's five hits, his fourth multi-hit game of the season.

In game two, Henderson strung together three hits in the bottom of the first inning to score two runs. Hayden Lessenberry and Dylan McCain had RBI singles off Harding starter Jackson Ward.

Henderson State's third run came in the fourth inning on a Kearon Redmon sacrifice fly.

Bryant Haralson (3-2) pitched a complete game in the seven-inning second game. He allowed five singles, two each to Harding freshmen J. Paul Fullerton and Myles Humphreys, and struck out eight without a walk.

Ward (1-3) allowed three runs (two earned) in three innings and struck out two. Mason Faulkner did not allow a hit in three innings of relief.
