Arkansas Tech Defeats Harding Women's Basketball 77-64

SEARCY – Arkansas Tech forced 18 turnovers and used a late first-quarter run to pull away and defeat Harding 77-64 Monday in Great American Conference women's basketball action at Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Tech (11-2, 7-2) won in Searcy for the first time since 2013, outscoring Harding 26-8 off turnovers. The Lady Bisons (6-11, 2-7) lost for the third time in eight home games this season and return to the road for their next two games, beginning Thursday at Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

In the first quarter, Harding got off to a quick start, connecting on five of its first six shots and leading 14-13 at the first media timeout. After the timeout, Harding shot 1 for 9 for the rest of the quarter and had difficulty handling Tech's pressure defense. Harding committed five turnovers that Tech turned into 10 points, and the Golden Suns closed out the quarter on a 13-2 run that gave them a 26-16 lead after one quarter.

Neither team shot well early in the second quarter. Tech missed its first five shots before a Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse 3-pointer from the left wing. Harding was 1 of 7 to open the quarter but made four free throws and answered Stackhouse's 3-pointer with a deep 3 from Carissa Caples to cut the Tech lead to 31-25 at the media timeout.

Harding outscored Arkansas Tech 17-15 in the quarter but got no closer than six points and trailed 41-33 at halftime.

Tech capitalized on 12 Harding turnovers in the first half, turning four of them into breakaway layups and outscoring Harding 15-6 off turnovers in the half.

Stackhouse led Arkansas Tech with 12 points at halftime, and Kellie Lampo led Harding with 10.

Harding had a three-minute scoring drought early in the third quarter, and Tech pushed its lead to 14 points at 53-39 on a Ryann Goodsell layup.

Tech shot 56 percent in the third quarter and outscored Harding 23-14 to extend its lead to 64-47. The Lady Bisons had only 11 field-goal attempts in the period.

A 5-0 Harding run early in the fourth cut Arkansas Tech's lead to 14 points at 66-52 with 6:37 left.

Harding had two possessions to trim the lead further but did not take advantage. Tech answered with a 5-0 run and led by at least 13 the rest of the way.

Stackhouse led Tech with 22 points, and Jayana Sanders scored 20.

Lampo scored 15 points to lead Harding, and Sydney Layrock scored 11. With those 11 points, Layrock moved past former teammate Arielle Saunders into eighth place on Harding's career scoring list.
