Oklahoma Baptist Uses Quick Start to Defeat Harding Women's Basketball

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist scored the first 11 points of the game, made eight first-half 3-pointers and defeated Harding 86-76 Saturday in Great American Conference play at the Noble Center.

Oklahoma Baptist (7-5, 2-4) has won three of its last four at home and snapped a four-game skid against Harding. The Lady Bisons (5-9, 1-5) remained winless in five road games.

Seven straight points from Harding's Kellie Lampo cut the Oklahoma Baptist lead to 19-15 with 1:50 left in the first quarter. Oklahoma Baptist answered with a 12-0 run that included two 3-pointers. The burst gave Oklahoma Baptist a 31-15 lead with 7:53 left in the second quarter.

A 7-0 Oklahoma Baptist run late in the first half pushed the lead to 22 points, and Harding trailed 49-29 at halftime.

Oklahoma Baptist made 8 of 16 3-pointers in the first half, and Harding was just 1 of 9. The Lady Bisons also had 13 turnovers.

Harding outscored Oklahoma Baptist 24-21 in the third quarter but trailed 70-53 entering the fourth.

Oklahoma Baptist opened the fourth quarter with a bucket off a turnover, but Harding went on an 11-0 spurt that cut its deficit to 72-64 with 5:00 on the clock. After a timeout, Oklahoma Baptist scored four straight points on Kadesha Cooper jumper and two Tasha Edge free throws.

Oklahoma Baptist led by at least 10 points from the 4:30 mark on.

Facts and Figures

Lampo led Harding with 26 points, her season high and tied for the second-most points by a Lady Bison this season. Lampo also had 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double. Lampo was 9 of 14 from the field and 8 of 10 at the free-throw line.

Harding entered the game ranked eighth nationally in rebounding and had a 40-29 rebound margin against Oklahoma Baptist. Harding also outscored Oklahoma Baptist 40-32 in the paint.

Sydney Layrock added 15 points, and Carissa Caples scored 10.

McKenzie Cooper, the leading 3-point shooter in the GAC, led Oklahoma Baptist with 26 points. She was only 2 of 6 from 3-point range but made all 10 of her free-throw attempts.

Autumn Avina was 8 of 9 shooting and scored 18 points, and Tasha Edge made four 3-pointers and scored 16.

Harding will play its fifth straight game away from home Thursday when it travels to Magnolia, Arkansas, to take on Southern Arkansas at 5:30 p.m. at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.
