Harding Women's Basketball Falls to No. 1 Central Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A strong first quarter was not enough for the Harding women's basketball team to upset No. 1-ranked Central Missouri Saturday night at the 2018 Central Region Challenge, played at historic Municipal Auditorium.

The Lady Bisons (1-1) held a 12-point after the first quarter, but Central Missouri outscored Harding in each of the last three quarters and won 63-51.

Harding shot 50 percent (7 of 14) overall and made three 3-pointers and led 18-6 entering the second quarter. The Lady Bisons struggled offensively in the second quarter, making only one of 11 shot attempts. Central Missouri outscored Harding 19-4 in the quarter and led 35-32 at halftime.

Harding took a 34-33 lead with 5:59 left in the third quarter on a Kellie Lampo layup. Central Missouri answered with a 7-0 run, including a Paige Redmond 3-pointer and jumper, and led the rest of the way.

Another Lampo layup with 8:51 left in the game pulled Harding within 46-41, but a 6-0 Central Missouri run put the game out of reach.

Lampo led Harding for the second straight game. She scored 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Kennedy Cooper added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Redmond scored 27 points to lead Central Missouri (2-0), connecting on five 3-pointers.

Harding's next plays Friday, when it welcomes Crowley's Ridge College to the Rhodes-Reaves Field House for a noon tipoff.
