Lampo Scores Career-High 29 Points, Leads Harding Past Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. – Harding sophomore Kellie Lampo scored a career-high 29 points, and the Lady Bisons held one of the top 3-point shooting teams in Division II to a season-low eight 3s in an 87-73 victory over Cameron on Saturday in nonconference play at Aggie Gym.

Harding improved to 4-1 with the victory, coming in its first true road game this season. Cameron, a member of the Lone Start Conference, fell to 2-4 and lost its second straight to a Great American Conference opponent. Cameron lost 98-73 to Southwestern Oklahoma on Wednesday in Weatherford.

Lampo made 11-of-16 from the field and 7-of-11 at the free-throw line to top her previous best of 26 points last season at Oklahoma Baptist. She added a team-high 11 rebounds.

Cameron entered the game ranked third in Division II with 12.0 3-pointers made per game. Harding held Cameron to only 1-of-13 3-pointers in the first half, and limited the Aggies to only 8-of-28 (29 percent) for the game. Cameron had at least 10 3-pointers in each of its first five games this season.

Harding shot 50 percent or better in each of the four quarter and 52.3 percent (34 of 65) for the game.

Junior transfer Cheyenne Brown made 8-of-12 shots and scored a season-high 16 points. Carissa Caples scored eight of her 13 points in the first quarter, and Kennedy Cooper added 10.

Parfitt McNair led Cameron with 25 points, making 9-of-18 shots and grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.

Harding scored the first points of the game on its first possession and led the entire game. Its largest lead came with 3:32 left in the second quarter and the Lady Bisons ahead 41-17.

Harding's next game is Thursday, when the Lady Bisons open their GAC schedule against Arkansas-Monticello. Tip-off at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House is at 5:30 p.m.

FACTS AND FIGURES

  • Saturday's game was a homecoming for Harding head coach Tim Kirby, a native of Lawton. Kirby grew up on a farm just outside of town and graduated from nearby Chattanooga High School.
  • Harding now leads the series 8-5 overall and it is tied 3-3 in Lawton. The Lady Bisons won 77-55 last season in Searcy.
  • Cameron shot 39.7 percent in the game. Harding has not allowed an opponent to shoot 40 percent or higher this season.
  • Harding shot 50 percent or better in all four quarters twice last season – in an 84-56 home victory over Ouachita Baptist and in a 73-63 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma in the quarterfinals of the GAC Tournament.
  • Harding matched its highest point total of the season and set season highs for field goals (34) and assists (21).
