CBU Makes 20 3s to Defeat Harding 90-74; Long Scores 28

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Harding senior JV Long scored a career-high 28 points, but Christian Brothers connected on 20 3-pointers, the most ever against a Harding team, and defeated the Bisons 90-74 Monday at Canale Arena.

Christian Brothers, ranked 24th in the NABC Top 25 Poll, made its first seven 3-point attempts in the second half, shot 14-of-17 from long range after halftime and became only the third team in Division II this season to make 20 or more 3-pointers in a game.

The game was Harding's last nonconference matchup before opening Great American Conference play Thursday at home against Arkansas-Monticello. The Bisons fell to 2-3 with the loss. Christian Brothers improved to 4-1.

Long's 28 points were the most by a Harding player this season. He shot 12-of-18 from the field and led Harding with six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Sophomore transfer Colin Hale added a season-high 13 points.

Each of Christian Brothers' five starters scored in double figures. Joe Laravie lead the way with 28 points, shooting 7-of-10 from 3-point range. Adam Dieball, the Bucs leading scorer entering the game, did not score in the first half but finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and 13 assists.

Christian Brothers led 38-32 at halftime and did not miss a 3-point attempt for more than six minutes in the second half. The seventh 3-pointer, coming from Brad Miller with 14:03 left, gave Christian Brothers a 61-41 lead, matching the Bucs largest lead of the game.

Christian Brothers used the outside shooting of Laravie and the low-post play of Jacob Lyons to erase an early Harding lead.

Harding made eight of its first 11 shots and led 19-10 with 11:03 left. Christian Brothers answered with a 13-2 run, and the Bucs took their first lead at 23-21 on a Laravie 3-pointer with 8:34 left. CBU's largest lead of the half was nine points at 38-29, but Harding's Reggie Anthony finished the half with a three-point play.

Laravie and Lyons combined for 30 of Christian Brothers' 38 first-half points. Laravie had four of the Bucs' six 3-pointers, and Lyons was 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.
