Tenth-Ranked Southern Nazarene Pulls Away to Defeat Harding Men's Basketball

SEARCY – With just under 12 minutes remaining, Harding was within three points of 10th-ranked Southern Nazarene, but a pair of runs down the stretch helped the Crimson Storm pull away and defeat the Bisons 82-60 on Saturday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding fell to 4-18 overall and 4-13 in the GAC. Southern Nazarene (20-1, 17-0) extended its NCAA Division II-best winning streak to 16 games. The Crimson Storm has won 17 straight conference games and 10 straight on the road.

Harding forced Southern Nazarene into poor shooting in the first half. The Crimson Storm shot only 9 of 31 (29 percent) but made 15 of 16 (94 percent) from the free-throw line.

Harding shot 50 percent (12 of 24) and made five 3-pointers in the first half and led 35-33 at the break.

Southern Nazarene made 10 of its first 13 shots in the second half and retook the lead, but Harding's Brandon Reeves made two free throws with 11:51 left, and Harding trailed only 55-52.

Micah Speight made a 3-pointer on Southern Nazarene's next trip to start a 15-4 run ended on a Jhonathan Dunn 3-pointer that gave the Crimson Storm a 70-56 lead with 6:53 left.

Reggie Anthony made a layup with 5:58 remaining that was Harding's last field goal of the game.

A 12-0 Southern Nazarene run over the next three minutes put the game away. The Crimson Storm shot 63 percent (19 of 30) in the second half and outscored Harding 49-25 after halftime.

Adam Horn came off the bench to lead Harding with 12 points, his fourth game in double figures this season.

Dunn scored 29 points to lead Southern Nazarene, who outrebounded Harding 47-21 and gave up only one offensive rebound.

Harding goes back on the road Thursday. The Bisons will be in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to take on Ouachita Baptist.
