Hays, Kansas – The 12th-ranked Harding softball team picked up two shutouts Saturday at the Fort Hays State Classic. The Lady Bisons defeated Upper Iowa 2-0 and defeated host team Fort Hays State 8-0 in five innings.

Freshman infielder Madison Leggett had six RBIs Saturday including a two homeruns against Fort Hays State.

Harding improves to 5-1 on the season. Upper Iowa falls to 4-1 and Fort Hays State falls to 2-8.

Game One Key Innings (#12 Harding 2, Upper Iowa 0)

-         Harding got on the board in the fourth inning when Madison Leggett doubled to left center to knock in pinch runner Hannah Fisher from second.

-         Harding made it a 2-0 game in the fifth off a solo home run by junior Peyton Mills. It was her first homerun of the season.

 
Game One Key Statistics

-         Harding had seven hits in the game led by Briley Feringa and Leggett who each had two.

-         Lady Bison pitcher Amanda Berry picked up her second win of the season and her second shutout. It was also her second complete game. She gave up two hits, walked one and struck out a career-high 10.

-         Emily Kisch received the loss for Upper Iowa and falls to 2-1 on the season. She threw six innings, gave up two earned runs and struck out seven.

 
Game Two Key Innings (#12 Harding 8, Fort Hays State 0 – 5 Innings)

-         Harding jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first off RBIs by Peyton Mills and Katie Carney.

-         The Lady Bisons made it a 6-0 game in the fourth on five hits, highlighted by a three-run homerun by Madison Leggett.

-         Leggett struck again in the fifth when she hit a two-run homerun to make it an 8-0 game.

 
Game Two Key Statistics

-         Madgison Leggett became the third player in program history to hit two homeruns in a game. She is also the first to accomplish the feat since Amanda Berdon hit two in 2016 at Northwestern Okla. Leggett's five RBIs ties for third most in program history.

-         Harding had nine hits in the game by seven different players. Leggett and Katyln Gordon each had two hits.

-         Emma Dwyer picked up her first collegiate win for Harding and is 1-1 on the season. She threw her first complete game and her first shutout. She gave up two hits and struck out four.

-         Sierra Rodriguez received the loss for Fort Hays State and falls to 2-3 on the season.
