Northwestern Oklahoma Defeats Harding in Windy, Home Run Fest

ALVA, Okla. – With the wind blowing out at 35 mph, Harding and Northwestern Oklahoma played a slugfest in game three of their Great American Conference series. Northwestern hit five home runs to Harding's three and defeated the Bisons 25-11 to win the series two-games-to-one.

Thirteen of Northwestern's first 18 runs came on its five home runs. Harding's home runs came from the top three in the lineup—Grant Guest, Luke Van Dover and Chris Taylor.

Northwestern homered four times in the first three innings, including a grand slam, and Harding battled uphill the rest of the game. The Rangers led 13-0 after scoring nine runs in the top of the third.

Northwestern had 26 hits in the game, the most ever by a Harding opponent, and Harding had 10 hits, including four for extra bases.

Guest went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI to lead the Harding attack.

Eight of Northwestern's nine starters had multi-hit games, including Justin Bundy, who went 5-for-6 with four runs, four RBI and a home run.

Northwestern starter Ryan Marcoccia (1-1) and allowed four unearned runs over five innings to earn the win. Reed Roberts (0-1), Harding's starter suffered the loss, allowing seven earned runs in two innings.

The game ended after eight innings due to the NCAA's 10-run rule.

Harding returns to action Tuesday for a nonconference game against Union in Jackson, Tennessee. The game begins at 1 p.m.
