Bisons Fall to Henderson State in Season Finale

SEARCY – Harding's Zac Ward scored 20 points in his final game as a Bison, but Henderson State shot 55 percent from the field and defeated Harding 91-83 in Great American Conference play at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House. It was the final game of the season for both teams.

Harding concluded its season 5-22 overall and 5-16 in the GAC. Henderson State finished 14-14 overall and 9-13 in conference.

The lead changed hands five times in the first half, the last coming on a 3-pointer from Henderson State's Josh Jones that gave the Reddies a 30-28 lead with 7:42 left in the half. Henderson State used a 7-0 run late in the first half to pull out to a 46-36 halftime lead.

The Reddies pushed their lead to 15 with 5:27 left on a Jones layup, but Harding went on a late 9-0 run to cut their deficit to 85-83 on a Tim Wagner 3-pointer with 40 seconds left.

Henderson State answered with a Kaylon Tappin dunk that started a 6-0 run to end the game.

Ward made 8 of 16 shots, including four 3-pointers. Wagner, also a senior, added 10 points and six assists, and Harding's third senior honored postgame, Mitchell Kirby, scored a career-high six points, hitting two 3-pointers.

Tappin led Henderson State with 28 points.
