12th-Ranked Harding Softball Wins Three on Monday

SEARCY – After winning the first game of a four-game Great American Conference series Sunday over Southwestern Oklahoma, the 12th-ranked Harding softball team won three more Monday.

Harding (9-1, 4-0) opened the day by recording the final three outs of a game suspended Sunday. A strikeout and a ground ball double play ended the game with Harding winning 11-3. Madison Leggett was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI to lead Harding, who led throughout after scoring six runs in the bottom of the first. Emily Garrett (3-0) was the winning pitcher, allowing two earned runs over five innings.

In the first game of Monday's scheduled doubleheader, Harding scored three in the first and three in the fourth to win 6-0.

Peyton Mills and Leggett both had RBI singles in the first, and Hannah Fisher's two-run double highlighted the fourth.

Emma Dwyer (2-1) pitched a three-hit shutout with no walks and nine strikeouts.

It took 10 innings to finish the fourth game of the series, but Harding's lone senior, Madi Trump, came through with the game-winning hit, an RBI single over the second baseman to score Leggett and give Harding a 3-2 win.

Briley Feringa and Trump both had three hits in the game. Garrett (4-0) won for the second time in one day, pitching the final 1 2/3 innings in relief of starter Amanda Berry, who allowed two runs on nine hits over 8 1/3 innings.

Harding has won eight consecutive games, and along with Arkansas Tech, was one of only two teams to sweep their conference-opening series. Southwestern remained winless at 0-10 overall and 0-4 in conference.

Harding's next action is Friday and Saturday. The Lady Bisons will travel to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to take on Henderson State in a four-game GAC series.
