Harding Men's Tennis Uses Doubles Sweep to Take Down St. Edward's 5-4

TEXARKANA, Texas – Harding used a sweep of doubles, a straight-sets win by Alejandro Sendra and a match-clinching three-set victory by Luis Tirado to defeat St. Edward's 5-4 Sunday in a neutral-site matchup at Texarkana College.

The victory was Harding's first against a regionally ranked Division II opponent this season. The Bisons are now 7-5 overall and 2-4 against Division II competition. St. Edward's, ranked fourth in the South Central Region, fell to 11-6 overall and lost its third straight.

Harding won all three doubles for the third straight match and improved to 11-1 in doubles in its last four matches.

Adria Abella and Pablo Trevino earned Harding's first point with an 8-5 win at No. 3. It was the duo's third consecutive win and 10th of the season.

Alejandro Sendra and Morgan Salvan, Harding's No. 1 doubles team, won 9-8, taking the tiebreaker 7-4 to collect Harding's second point. Sendra and Salvan have won four straight and are 9-3 together this season.

Harding's No. 2 doubles team of Carlos Crisostomo and Luis Tirado completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 2. It was also the fourth straight win for Crisostomo and Tirado, who have a team-high 15 doubles wins in 22 matches.

Sendra pulled Harding within one point of clinching with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. It was his fourth straight singles win, and moved his record to 5-2 when playing at No. 2 singles.

St. Edward's closed the gap to 4-3 with straight sets victories at Nos. 1, 5 and 6, but Tirado clinched the match with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3. It was only Tirado's second three-set match this season and his first three-set victory.

Harding plays its first home match of the season Saturday, hosting Northwest Missouri State of the Division II MIAA.
