SHAWNEE, Okla. – The 18th-ranked Harding softball team split with Oklahoma Baptist Friday in Great American Conference action. Oklahoma Baptist won the first game 3-2 and Harding won the second game 7-0. It was Harding's seventh shutout of the season.
Harding moves to 17-5 overall and 11-3 in the GAC.
Oklahoma Baptist moves to 8-14 overall and 5-9 in the GAC.
Game One Key Innings (Oklahoma Baptist 3, Harding 2)
- Oklahoma Baptist made it a 1-0 game in the second when Aspen Grimes laid down a sacrifice but that scored Bry Flanagan from third.
- Harding tied the game in the third when Katlyn Gordon hit a double to left field that scored Madi Trump from first.
- Harding made it a 2-1 game in the fifth when Peyton Mills hit a solo home run to center field. It was her fourth of the season.
- Oklahoma Baptist took the lead in the sixth off one hit and three Harding errors. Cheyenne Demaree singled in a run and Kristen Grabin scored on an error.
Game One Key Statistics
- Oklahoma Baptist had six hits, led by Dani Manning who went 2-for-3.
- Harding had five hits, led by Katlyn Gordon who went 3-for-3. It was her second three hit game this season.
- Amanda Peterson got the win for Oklahoma Baptist, pitching two innings of relief.
- Emma Dwyer received the loss for Harding and falls to 7-2. She threw six innings, gave up six hits, one earned run and struck out four.
Game Two Key Innings (Harding 7, Oklahoma Baptist 0)
- Harding got things started in the first when Katie Carney hit a double to right center field that scored Katlyn Gordon and Madi Trump.
- Amanda Fields homered to left field in the fourth to give Harding a 3-0 lead. It was her first collegiate home run.
- Harding scored three runs off one hit and one Oklahoma Baptist error in the fifth inning. Madison Leggett hit a bases-clearing double to left field that scored Katie Carney, Briley Feringa and Peyton Mills.
- Harding scored its final run in the seventh when Peyton Mills hit a solo home run. It was her second on the day and the fifth of the season.
Game Two Key Statistics
- Harding had five hits with Peyton Mills going 2-for-3.
- Oklahoma Baptist had four hits and two errors in the game. Miranda Garza went 2-for-3.
- Amanda Berry picked up the win for Harding to improve to 5-2. It was her fourth shutout and her fifth complete game. Berry gave up four hits, allowed one walk and struck out two.
- Amanda Peterson received the loss and falls to 4-4 on the season. She pitched four innings and struck out three.
