SEARCY – Harding junior Arisa Takanashi won a three-set marathon match at No. 2 singles to clinch a 5-4 victory over Southern Nazarene Friday at the Harding Tennis Courts.

The victory moved Harding to 11-3 overall and gave the Lady Bisons a win in its Great American Conference opener. Southern Nazarene fell to 1-7 overall and 1-4 in conference.

Harding had a 2-1 lead after doubles. The Lady Bisons won 8-3 at both No. 1 and No. 2. Laura Golubic and Takanashi won their eighth straight at No. 1, and Gabriella Alves and Hana Folse won for the fourth time in their last five matches at No. 2.

The Lady Bisons needed three wins in singles to win the match. The first came at No. 6, where Emily Faulkner won 6-2, 6-2 over Zoe Gray, her third win in her last four singles matches.

Golubic won for the fifth time in her last six matches and made the score 4-2 with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 1. It was Golubic's first match at No. 1 singles this season. Southern Nazarene earned the next two points with three-set wins at No. 3 and No. 5, but Takanashi won 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 over Polina Chala.
