Harding Women's Basketball Falls Just Short in GAC Tournament Championship Game

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Harding cut a six-point deficit to one late in the Great American Conference championship game Sunday against Arkansas Tech but came up just short in a 63-62 loss to Arkansas Tech at Bruin Fieldhouse.

Tech (26-3) won its last 10 games and will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament. Harding (18-15) reached the tournament championship game for the fifth time in its seven seasons in the GAC.

Senior Sydney Layrock led Harding with 21 points and made a 3-pointer with 1:56 left. It was the last score of the game for either team. Harding had two turnovers and a missed shot at the buzzer on its final three possessions. Tech also missed its last three shots.

Layrock made 8 of 17 from the field and three of Harding's four 3-pointers. She finished her career with 1,571 points, fifth-most in program history.

Senior Falan Miller added 13 points.

Tournament MVP Cheyenne North led Tech with 16 points, eight rebounds, nine blocks and six assists.

Neither team had a double-figure lead in the game. Harding's largest advantage was eight points early in the second quarter. Tech led by as many as nine late in the third quarter.

Tech made 27 shots in the game and shot 41.5 percent. Harding was 20 of 52 (39 percent) but outscored Tech 18-5 at the free-throw line.

Layrock and freshman Kellie Lampo received All-Tournament Team accolades in a postgame ceremony.
