Henderson State Takes Two From Harding Baseball Sunday

SEARCY – Henderson State defeated Harding 2-0 and 8-6 Sunday at Jerry Moore Field to complete a three-game Great American Conference series sweep.

Harding (5-12, 1-8) got a solid start from Tanner Smith in game one. Smith allowed only one earned run on five hits over six innings but dropped to 2-3 with the loss. Reed Roberts gave up only one hit over the final three innings out of the bullpen.

Daniel Sprinkle (2-1) earned the win in the opener for Henderson, allowing four hits over six scoreless innings. Taylor Langston pitched the ninth inning for his fourth save.

Henderson's runs came on a wild pitch in the first inning and a Harding error in the second.

Harding scored three runs in the first and led 6-2 after five innings. Henderson State scored six times in the top of the sixth. Caleb Carr drove in two with a single, and Jordan Harris hit a three-run home run to give the Reddies the lead.

Connor Kelly had three of Harding's eight hits and drove in two. Chris Taylor and David Butterfield also had two hits. Grant Guest had his fourth double of the season.

Jackson Ward started game two for Harding and went 5 1/3 innings. He yielded five hits and five earned runs with two strikeouts. Reliever Mason Faulkner (0-1) allowed three hits, including the home run in the sixth, and took the loss.

Kris Priddy (3-1) won with a 1 2/3 innings of relief for Henderson. Langston pitched the seventh for his fifth save.

Harding is back in action Tuesday for a nonconference game against Hendix in Conway, Arkansas.
