Softball Knocks Off No. 3 Seed Southeastern Oklahoma Wednesday

BENTONVILLE, AR – The No. 6 seeded Harding softball team upset No. 3 seed Southeastern Oklahoma 8-1 in the first round of the Great American Conference Tournament. Harding will play the winner between No. 2 seed Arkansas Tech and No. 7 seed Ouachita Baptist Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Harding improves to 31-24 on the season.

Southeastern Oklahoma falls to 33-22 and will play the loser between Arkansas Tech and Ouachita Baptist Thursday.


Key Innings

-         With the bases loaded in the second, Kyndal Pirtle reached on a fielder's choice that scored a run but after an error by Southeastern Oklahoma the bases stayed loaded. Peyton Mills made it a 4-0 game when she had a bases-clearing double to left center. Briley Feringa singed in Peyton Mills to give Harding a 5-0 lead.

-         The Lady Bisons went up 6-0 in the fourth when Katie Carney hit a solo home run to left field. It was her second of the season.

-         Southeastern Oklahoma got on the board in the fourth when Destiny Riddle scored on a Harding error.

-         Harding took an 8-1 lead in the seventh when Katie Carney singled to right center to score Hannah Fisher from third.

Key Statistics

-         Harding had 11 hits with four players having two – Briley Feringa, Katlyn Gordon, Hannah Fisher and Katie Carney.

-         Southeastern Oklahoma had five hits and didn't get their first one until the third inning.

-         Amanda Berry picked up the win for Harding to improve to 11-7. It was her seventh complete game of the season. Berry allowed five hits and no earned runs.

-         Southeastern Oklahoma starter Kelsey Meeks received the loss and falls to 27-14 overall. She gave up three earned runs and struck out two.
